Family Housing
The Family Housing program is a federal
program that provides decent and safe, rental housing assistance
for eligible low-income families.
Family housing units are owned and managed by York Housing
Authority. Some of the units are grouped in a single community,
others are found distributed throughout York County that can
be houses or apartment buildings that have been remodeled
by the authority.
Family Housing residents pay 30% of their adjusted gross
income for rent and basic utilities. YHA manages approximately
611 family rental housing units in York City and York County.
YHA selects its residents after they have completed the application
process, have come to the top of the waiting list, and satisfied
various eligibility criteria. These criteria include: income
eligibility, housekeeping, rental history, criminal history,
and financial responsibility.
YHA has family housing units are located in the following
areas: Parkway Homes, Codorus Homes, Wellington Homes, Fielding
Way, Ridgefield Court, Wrightsville, West Manchester Township,
Glen Rock, Windsor, Fairmont Village, Hanover, Yoe, Red Lion
and Emigsville.
Who is Eligible?
In order to have an applicant placed on our family housing wait
list the following conditions need to be met:
Applicants must-- Qualify as a "family"
(HUD’s definition of a family is: “Two or more
person who will live together regularly in the dwelling unit,
with a head of household at least eighteen (18) years old,
who: (a) are related by blood, marriage, adoption, legal guardianship
or operation of law; (b) are not so related but have clearly
and convincingly demonstrated a stable relationship in prior
housing; or (c) consist of an elderly person or an individual
with disabilities, and a live-in aide)
Have an income within the income limits determined by the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
Have each member of the family is a citizen, national, or
non-citizen who has eligible immigration status.
Provide documentation of Social Security numbers for all
family members 2 years of age and older (or certifies that
they do not have one)
MUST NOT be a registered sex offender.
Must not any monies to the York Housing Authority
Current maximum family income ranges from $35,650 for a single person household to $67,250 for a family of 8 persons. This was effective March 1, 2007.
If you are wait list eligible, the York
Housing Authority will complete a series of verifications
based on your application to be sure that you meet all program
eligibility requirement. York Housing Authority can and will
deny admission to any applicant whose habits and practices
may be expected to have a detrimental effect on other tenants,
on the community’s environment, or who have provided
false information on their application or during the eligibility
verification process.

These income limits are established by the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and will be revised
when the changes in income limits are published by the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development.
